Obstetrics Maternally Assisted Caesarean

With increasing rates of medical intervention and in particular, Caesarean sections, the Maternally Assisted Caesarean enhances a woman’s interaction with the birth process.

This type of caesarean allows a mother to reach down and bring her newborn immediately onto her chest, allowing for important early bonding and delayed cord clamping. It is incredibly satisfying for all involved.

I had the privilege of performing the first Maternally Assisted Caesarean at Frances Perry House a few years ago, and since then I have had the privilege of performing many more.

I have also performed Maternally Assisted Caesareans in complicated births such as breech presentations, low grade placenta praevia cases, obstructed labours and even with twins, all safely and to the immense satisfaction of the women and medical team alike.

The Maternally Assisted Caesarean is a wonderful way to help a woman interact in her birth process and has certainly made my job even more special.
