Private Obstetric Care in Melbourne

Many women choose private obstetric care because they value consistency, reassurance and knowing who will be guiding their care throughout the journey. Dr Peter Jurcevic has built his practice around exactly that, one specialist who knows your history, understands your concerns and is there when it matters most. With over 30 years of experience and more than 7,000 births, he provides personalised antenatal care and private obstetric care in Melbourne for all pregnancies, including high-risk pregnancies.

Is Private Obstetric Care Right for You?

Private obstetric care suits a wide range of circumstances. Some women choose it because they have a complex medical history or a previous pregnancy complication. Others simply want the continuity and direct access that private care provides. Dr Peter sees women across all stages and types of pregnancy, including:

  • First pregnancies
  • Pregnancies following a previous caesarean, including VBAC
  • High-risk pregnancies, including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, autoimmune conditions and cardiac or renal conditions
  • Multiple pregnancies, including twins
  • Pregnancies with abnormal screening results or genetic concerns
  • Pregnancies involving placental complications
  • Women seeking a Maternally Assisted Caesarean (MAC)
  • Women seeking Calm Birthing or HypnoBirthing
  • Women who want a single, consistent specialist across their entire pregnancy

Delivering at Frances Perry House

Dr Peter delivers at Frances Perry House, a private maternity hospital located within The Royal Women’s Hospital precinct in Parkville. This means patients have access to advanced private facilities alongside the clinical resources of one of Australia’s leading public women’s hospitals, should they be needed.

As Head of Obstetrics at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Dr Peter has direct clinical relationships and access across both facilities. For women with complex pregnancies, this continuity of specialist oversight is an important consideration when choosing an obstetrician.

Preparing for Your First Appointment

Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss your pregnancy in detail and begin planning your care throughout the journey ahead. We usually recommend booking your first appointment between 6 and 10 weeks of pregnancy. During this visit, Dr Peter will review your medical and pregnancy history and discuss any questions or concerns you may have. This appointment is also a chance to talk through your preferences for pregnancy care and birth, so you feel informed, supported and confident moving forward.

To help make the most of your consultation, please bring:

  • Your referral letter from your GP
  • Any blood test results taken since you found out you were pregnant
  • Recent ultrasound results, if available
  • Your Medicare card and private health insurance details
  • A list of current medications
  • Any questions you would like to discuss

Partners and support people are welcome at any appointment.

Our team is happy to assist with appointments, fees and any questions you may have before your visit. We understand this is an exciting time and we aim to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible.
